Those things with four times as many legs...

Yes, I am a bit dramatic. But I am not exaggerating at all when I say that spiders (and all bugs with more legs than me) make me weak in the knees. Beyond the weakness in the knees, they actually make me feel slightly sick to my stomach, too.

As I was preparing my lunch today, there was a spider on the counter. It was about the size of my thumbnail, aka HUGE (I do not discriminate based on the size of spiders - I find them all equally disturbing). It was moving really slowly, which should have been comforting but actually freaked me out even more because I was waiting for it to speed up or, even worse, jump!

Since I was the only one home, I needed to kill it. I realize that spiders aren't bad and are actually important and necessary to kill other bugs. I understand all of that. I left a huge spider, perhaps a black widow, outside right next to our backdoor all summer and fall so that it could do it's thing. However, all bets are off when they're in my house. When it comes down to me and the spider, we can't coexist and only one of us pays half the mortgage to live here.

So now I have to figure out how I'm going to kill it. My first choice is ALWAYS a shoe. I am not comfortable with the kleenix/toilet paper route that works for Pat. Paper is not enough of a barrier between my hand and the spider. What if I don't kill it? What if I can feel it being squished? Or even worse, what if it touches my hand? SICK! But I'm also not sure how comfortable I am putting the bottom of a shoe on my kitchen counter.

I had to do what I had to do so I grabbed Pat's huge slipper with rubber bottom; size twelve slipper vs. half inch spider. I knew the spider didn't stand a chance, but I still screamed when I smacked the slipper on the counter. It was involuntary. Even though I wouldn't say I handled the situation with dignity and grace, I am quite proud of myself for standing up to that spider, defending myself, my house and my animals. (I already told you, I'm a bit dramatic).

I feel your spidey pain. I HATE them. Once, I killed one on my wall and had to wait 2 days for Tyler to come home and actually clean it up. I have that same phobia that a kleenex is enough of a barrier.

My son - who is 18 - always calls me when it's time to remove a spider from the house. I know my future daughter-in-law will probably hate me someday. lol

For the record, I'll sometimes spray it with hairspray first. The chemicals tend to slow them down even more (I feel so mean) & I'm pretty sure they won't run away and hide.

I ALWAYS scream while killing. I can't use shoes, I use a whole roll of paper towels or about 50 wipies. I'm worse than you possibly....

First Annual Ugly Sweater Party

Ugly Sweater Party from Emily Robinson on Vimeo . Well, our First Annual Ugly Sweater Party was a huge success! We had SO much fun, as you'll see from the video. I also had so much fun making this video! I got a new flip cam for Christmas so it was fun to actually make a project with the videos! For those who attended the party, you will definitely enjoy all 14 minutes of this video (it is worth every second). I was laughing so hard while I was making it! For those who didn't attend the party, I can see how the video might get old or seem really long. Either way, if you watch it, let me know what you think!
Week: 19 Baby size: 6 inches, the size of a mango Bump size: 35.5 inches   Weight: +10 pounds Cravings: Anything sweet I still can't pass up desserts and don't worry - I didn't pass on anything this week, as much as I should have. I ate a glazed doughnut, piece of chocolate cake (it was small...) and a piece of cheesecake. Not all in the same day, but in the same week.  Other than my poor eating habits, which is old news at this point, there were a few other big developments this week. I guess you could say I officially "popped." I received more comments (and more belly touching) this week than I have throughout the pregnancy. This is both good and bad. I kind of liked being able to "hide" my pregnancy and only talk about it when and with whom I wanted. Those days are officially behind me and my protruding belly apparently is just screaming to people, "yes, I'm pregnant. Let's talk about it." There are only two weeks ...

Beware of Infections...

When I think of an infection, I think of something that needs a little neosporin and a band aid and then life goes on. When the doctors started talking about Mark's infection as something that is life-threatening, as you can imagine, I was shocked. He has stage IV cancer for god's sake, an infection is the least of his worries, right? Wrong. Turns out it's not uncommon for people going through this treatment to get these infections which can be fatal if it doesn't respond to antibiotics and continues to spread. So, going back to my blog about not worrying because it doesn't get you anywhere and it's a waste of time, yada yada yada - I have done very little of anything else besides worry during the past 36 hours or so. Even during the hour and a half last night watching the movie Amityville Horror I was worrying. Well, I guess I was worrying more about not peeing my pants, but you get the idea. I feel bad for the people around me when I get worried like this. I ...
